We communicate in some form or another everyday but often times it can be questioned if we effectively did so. Learning effective communication is necessary now more than ever as we live in a globalized world with the exchanging of ideas over various means of technology. Equipping persons with the basic skills and sanitizing them to the fundamentals of effective communication will go a long way in helping them go through the rest of their lives in a productive way. Proper communication influences relationships among people (Orey & Prisk, 2004), the culture of a school, of work, and in general helps everyone function efficiently with one another. To this end I think it is important that communication skills be taught as a skill for social and personal competence.

SECTION 2
Feedback is an important step in the process of communication as it lets the sender know whether the message was received. If this element is not present, communication has not been effectively achieved.
Teacher Strategy
The teacher will ask students if they know what the process of communication looks like. He would call on persons randomly so that they can respond as well as call on those who are willing. He will then show students a power point depicting the process in a step by step way.
The teacher will then ask students to get into groups of four and create a scenario whereby the four basic elements of communication are utilized. He would tell students that they must role-play the scenario and also give a verbal explanation of what they did. He would instruct that the roles of Leader, timekeeper, reporter and scribe will have to be decided by members. The teacher will clear up misconceptions where necessary. |
